Auburn, Notre Dame agree to home-and-home series

Auburn and Notre Dame have finalized plans for a home-and-home football series that will mark the first-ever meeting between the two storied programs, sources confirm to AuburnSports.

The series begins in 2027 at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, with the return game set for 2028 at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The agreement brings together two of college football’s most tradition-rich names, adding a marquee non-conference matchup to both teams’ future schedules.

The game at Notre Dame will be Sept. 25, 2027. The game at Auburn will be Oct. 28, 2028. And reminder: the Tigers and Miami (FL) have a series scheduled for 2029-30.

The agreement was officially reached on Wednesday.

Sources told AuburnSports there was a thought about creating a neutral-site game in Nashville inside the Tennessee Titans’ new stadium to start the 2027 season, but the home-and-home agreement was reached instead. That’s great news and credit to Auburn’s administration.

Sources told AuburnSports recently that this been in discussion for more than a year and played a role in AU’s recent decision to move next season’s game against Baylor to a neutral-site venue, a shift that reportedly resulted in a payout of at least $4 million. Adjusting that matchup helped open flexibility in future scheduling as the Tigers worked toward finalizing the agreement with the Fighting Irish.

The 2027–2028 series will be one of the most anticipated future matchups on the Tigers’ schedule, pairing two fan bases and programs with deep history and national followings. For AU, it also marks another opportunity to showcase itself on one of college football’s grandest stages, while bringing one of its most historic names to Jordan-Hare for the first time ever.
