6 Florida Gators selected in 2025 MLB Draft

The Florida Gators had a total of six players selected during the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday. UF has produced six-plus draft picks in two of the last three years and three of the last five drafts (2021, 2023, 2025).

The first Gator off the board, shortstop Colby Shelton, was drafted for the second straight year. After going in Round 20 to the Washington Nationals last year and returning to school, Shelton was a sixth-round pick with the Chicago White Sox (166 overall).

The Florida Gators had a pair of pitchers drafted in the seventh round — RHP Jake Clemente (Miami Marlins, 166 overall) and LHP Pierce Coppola (Chicago Cubs, 211 overall) — followed by third baseman Bobby Boser in the 11th round (Athletics, 320 overall).

UF’s final selections were catchers Luke Heyman, picked by the Seattle Mariners in Round 14 (422 overall), and Brody Donay, a Tampa Bay Rays draftee in Round 17 (507). Two Florida Gators commits, Jordan Yost and Aaron Watson, were taken on Day 1 of the draft.

Heyman and Donay are expected to sign and turn pro early along with Shelton, Coppola (R-Jr) and Clement, a redshirt sophomore. UF juniors Blake Cyr (No. 262) and Cade Kurland (No. 270) were not drafted despite being top 300 prospects with Baseball America.

The Florida Gators have now produced 231 individual draft picks in program history and 116 under coach Kevin O’Sullivan. While Yost and Watson won’t make it to campus, TCU transfer catcher Karson Bowen was not drafted on Monday and will play for the Florida Gators.
