Florida interim coach Chuck Jeroloman leaves for Tennessee

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — For the second time in as many weeks, the head coach of the Florida Gators baseball team is stepping away from the program. This time it’s their interim coach, Chuck Jeroloman, and he’s gone for good.
Tennessee is hiring Jeroloman as its associate head coach and recruiting coordinator, which was first reported by Baseball America on Thursday night. He will be joining new Vols coach Josh Elander, who was coached by Jeroloman at TCU in 2012.
Chuck Jeroloman, who has been on Florida’s staff since 2020 as associate head coach, was promoted to interim coach last Wednesday after Kevin O’Sullivan took a leave of absence from his coaching duties to address personal matters.
As of Thursday night, it’s unclear who will coach the Gators for their first exhibition game at Jacksonville on Friday. First pitch for the 10-inning contest is set for 6:30 p.m. at Vystar Ballpark.
UF will have its second and final exhibition game on Nov. 9 against Georgia Southern at Condron Family Ballpark. Jeroloman has been coaching the team for the past week in O’Sullivan’s place.
“I appreciate the support of the University and athletic department,” O’Sullivan said in a statement last week. “I have some personal and family issues that need my full attention at this time.”
O’Sullivan is in his 19th year at Florida and has a 756–371 record with one national title and a runner-up finish in 2023 and 2011. He faces a three-game suspension to open the 2026 season for his pregame incident at the 2025 NCAA Conway Regional.

Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin also released a statement on O’Sullivan’s leave of absence.
“Coach O’Sullivan has our full support as he takes the time he needs to focus on personal matters,” Stricklin said. “We appreciate his openness in communicating this decision and respect his need for privacy.”
