4-star RB Amari Thomas backs out of FSU commitment

FSU has enjoyed a lot of good recruiting news this summer, especially in the month of June, when the Seminoles landed 12 commitments.
However, they were dealt some bad news on Friday when their lone running back commitment, four-star prospect Amari Thomas of Blountstown, decided to reopen his recruitment and decommit from the ‘Noles.
Sources close to the situation told Warchant that Thomas did talk with the FSU staff before going public on his decision, and it was not an acrimonious departure. So the Seminoles are still expected to continue recruiting the speedy back.
Thomas told Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett that South Carolina, Georgia Tech, UCF and Florida were some of the schools he plans to consider after his decommitment.
Michael’s analysis on RB Amari Thomas, FSU
South Carolina is the school I think Thomas will end up committing to next. And there is no way to describe this as anything other than a blow to the ‘Noles.

FSU was on him the earliest, and the Seminoles’ coaches had a great connection with him personally. So to lose him before the season starts suggests he might not be confident that this could be a bounce-back season for the ‘Noles.
Even though I have put an RPM pick in for South Carolina to land Thomas, I do believe the Seminoles are going to stay involved in this recruitment and try to flip him back during the fall.
I also don’t think this caught FSU by total surprise, so the Seminoles have been considering other options. I’ll have a story on where the ‘Noles will turn next coming soon.
