49ers take FSU's Renardo Green late in second round of NFL Draft
Florida State Seminoles were bookends of the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
While wide receiver Keon Coleman was the first pick of the second round, cornerback Renardo Green was the final pick and 64th overall. He was taken by the San Francisco 49ers and was the fourth Seminole selected.
Unlike Florida State’s first three draft picks — Jared Verse, Coleman and Braden Fiske — Green actually spent his entire career with the ‘Noles. He alternated between cornerback and safety early in his career before finding a home at corner the past two seasons.
Green is set to sign a four-year contract worth $6.1 million, according to Spotrac. He will also receive a $1.2 million signing bonus. He also became the 41st second-round draft pick in Florida State history.
The All-ACC cornerback led the conference in 2023 with 12 pass breakups. He also had a pivotal interception early in the fourth quarter of the season-opening win over LSU. In that game, matched up largely against No. 6 overall pick Malik Nabers, Green helped hold the Tigers’ star receiver to just 67 yards (well below his season average) and zero touchdowns in the 45-24 FSU win.
Green started his career in 2019 as a corner, switched to safety, then back to corner following the 2021 season. Over the last two years, Green became one of the top cover corners in the United States, tallying 101 tackles and helping lead the Seminoles to a 13-0 regular season in 2023.
