College football fans hoping for a war of words between Florida State and Alabama following Tommy Castellanos’ recent comments about the Crimson Tide defense are probably going to end up being disappointed.

The Alabama players who took part in interviews Wednesday at SEC Media Days were asked about Castellanos’ comments — in particular, the new FSU quarterback saying he didn’t think the Tide would be able to stop him in the season opener — and they all shared the same short, but effective, message.

“All disrespect will be handled accordingly,” said linebacker Deontae Lawson.

During an interview on, “SEC This Morning,” Lawson said Alabama’s players weren’t ignoring what Castellanos said, but they also aren’t making too big of a deal of it.

“It definitely ignites us a little bit,” Lawson said. “We can’t really think too much on that. It’s gonna come down to what we do and how we prepare that week.”

Crimson Tide defensive lineman Tim Keenan III shared a very similar message when he was asked about it as well.

“Disrespect will be addressed,” Keenan said.

Castellanos, who is entering his first season as Florida State’s starting quarterback after two years at Boston College, made his comments during a one-on-one interview with On3’s Pete Nakos late last month.

In that piece, the athletic signal-caller spoke at length about why he chose to finish his career at Florida State, why he is excited about the Seminoles’ prospects in 2025, and how much confidence he has about the game against Alabama.

“I dreamed of moments like this. I dreamed of playing against Alabama,” he said. “They don’t have Nick Saban to save them. I just don’t see them stopping me.”

In a subsequent video posted from a summer workout featuring current and former college football players, Castellanos told Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Horton that he didn’t mean to disrespect the Tide, but that he was merely trying to instill confidence in his new Florida State teammates.

Florida State and Alabama will open the 2025 season on Aug. 30 inside Doak Campbell Stadium.

Castellanos and three of his new teammates — offensive lineman Richie Leonard, defensive lineman Darrell Jackson and safety Earl Little Jr. — will appear in Charlotte next week at ACC Kickoff.
