The momentum keeps rolling for Florida State, as the Seminoles flip another highly rated recruit from another school, and it’s another legacy recruit as well.

Four-star defensive back Lawrence ‘Jay’ Timmons, who has been committed to Indiana for months, has now switched his pledge to Florida State after the Seminoles put on a strong push this summer.

Timmons announced his decision Tuesday night.

“I’ve been an FSU fan since the day I was born,” Timmons told Warchant’s Matt LaSerre after his announcement. “I was born in Tally, and I’ve been ride-or-die since I was born. … This has been something I’ve always dreamed about.”

Florida State started to make a move for Timmons when he visited for an Elite Camp earlier this month, and the Seminoles then put the finishing touches on this one with his recent official visit.

Timmons is certainly a familiar name to die-hard FSU fans as his father, former Seminole LB Lawrence Timmons, played in the 2000s under Bobby Bowden before becoming a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I wanted FSU because it’s my dream school, the school I’ve always been a fan of and it’s where I was born …,” Timmons said, when he received an offer from FSU earlier this summer. “Having an offer from Florida State is literally a dream come true.”

Since last weekend, Florida State has landed commitments from Timmons, four-star QB Jaden O’Neal, four-star tight end Xavier Tiller, four-star wide receiver Devin Carter, and offensive linemen Jakobe Green and Luke Francis.

The Seminoles have reeled in 11 commitments this month, and they now have 19 for the Class of 2026.

Michael’s analysis on 4-star DB Jay Timmons

This one just made too much sense, and you could feel things starting to fall into place once Florida State offered in June.

Timmons is a ball-hawking safety who should be very effective in Tony White’s defense. This feels like Florida State has now finished off the safety position for this class. There are other targets still remaining, but the Seminoles could be done if they don’t lose any commitments this fall.

Now, FSU is likely going to turn its attention to the linebacker position as several big decisions could happen down the stretch.
