Sources: BJ Gibson to leave FSU football program, focus on baseball

Two days after Florida State’s 28-22 loss to rival Miami, Warchant has confirmed that sophomore wide receiver BJ Gibson is leaving the football program to focus fully on baseball.

Warchant confirmed the move with multiple sources inside the athletics department and close to Gibson.

Gibson played in six games as a freshman for the football team in 2024 and recorded two receptions for 14 yards; he also had one punt return for three yards.

This season, he was seeing more playing time and was even making a run at being the Seminoles’ starting punt returner.

During his freshman baseball season at Florida State, Gibson started nine games in left field. In 33 at-bats, he recorded eight hits, four RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Out of high school, Gibson was a three-star recruit. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, he was the No. 420-ranked player in the 2024 class, as well as the 68th-best receiver and No. 47 prospect in the state of Georgia.

Gibson is the third Florida State football player to leave the roster since fall camp as OL/TE Bryson Estes left the team and DB Conrad Hussey was dismissed.
