Cornerback Jay Timmons now FSU's highest-rated commit in Rivals300 rankings

The first ever addition of the Rivals300 recruiting rankings, a combined version of the old On300 and Rivals250, was released on Monday, and it brought good news for one of Florida State’s newest commits.

Florida State cornerback commit Jay Timmons was one of the nation’s biggest risers in the first edition of the 2026 rankings. Timmons was previously rated outside the top 300, according to On3/Rivals, and now he has shot all the way up to the 39th best player in the 2026 class.

This time last year, Timmons only had one FBS offer, and it was from Akron.

Thanks to his new ranking, the former Indiana commit is now the highest-rated prospect in Florida State’s 2026 class, according to Rivals. He has moved ahead of prospects like four-star cornerback Chauncey Kennon and four-star defensive linemen Earnest Rankins.

Timmons flipped his commitment to Florida State after his official visit to Tallahassee in late June. He was only offered by the Seminoles a few weeks earlier, after he worked out at Mike Norvell’s summer camp.

“I know I’m one of the best in the country, and I’ve shown it everywhere I’ve been — OT7, UA camp, everywhere,” Timmons said at the time.

The Pittsburgh product is also a Florida State legacy recruit. His father, Lawrence Timmons, played linebacker for FSU in the mid-2000s before moving on to the NFL, and Jay was actually born in Tallahassee.
