DL James 'Tank' Carrington commits to FSU after official visit

Florida State landed its first public commitment from its official visits from this past weekend on Monday as three-star defensive lineman James Carrington announced he will be a Seminole.
Carrington, who goes by the nickname “Tank” and is listed at 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds, made his way to Tallahassee from California for the visit, but he is originally from the East Coast. He is rated one of the nation’s top 40 defensive linemen and one of the top 40 prospects in California.
“For me, what stood out the most was the connection here and it’s bigger than any college I’ve been to, especially within the defensive line room,” Carrington said after his official visit this past weekend. “Getting to know them, the players that are here now and how they love the coaches … they all seem to love it here and treat each other like family.”
Carrington said he loved what he heard about head coach Mike Norvell from the current Florida State players.
“His message was he was going to be honest through my recruitment and my time if I were to go here. That was his biggest thing. I definitely got that from the coaches and players,” the defensive lineman said. “There are times where the players would say they might not have liked him, but he definitely comes with that energy every day. That’s something new to me that I haven’t seen. It was a great experience.”

Carrington said playing defensive end and defensive tackle are both possible for his career at Florida State and that he plays both in high school.
“He (defensive line coach Terrance Knighton) sees me at both,” Carrington said. “I’m fast enough to play the Edge and big enough to play the inside.”
Carrington was originally scheduled to visit Nebraska this weekend, but he said Monday he has shut things down.
