Faurot blasts 2 HRs, Volini cruises on mound as FSU drops Boston College, 8-2

Even while facing a higher level of competition, FSU junior left-hander Joey Volini proved once again that he is more than capable of being a Friday night starter.
With staff ace Jamie Arnold not expected to pitch until Saturday, Volini opened the Seminoles’ second consecutive series on the mound, and he delivered his second consecutive dominant performance. Volini allowed just one unearned run and four hits in six innings while leading FSU to an 8-2 victory over Boston College at Dick Howser Stadium.
Volini, who also impressed last week against Lipscomb, struck out eight batters and walked two in the Seminoles’ Atlantic Coast Conference opener. In his two Friday starts, he has allowed one earned run in 13 innings; he has struck out 19 while walking three.
Led by middle infielders Drew Faurot and Alex Lodise, Florida State (16-1, 1-0 ACC) also put together a strong night on offense, pounding BC pitching for 14 hits, including eight for extra bases.
Faurot blasted a pair of home runs and finished the night 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Lodise went 2-for-4 with a home run, double and 2 RBIs.
FSU also got two three hits from designated hitter Jaxson West, who reached base safely four times, and outfielder Gage Harrelson went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored.

While the Seminoles’ bullpen wasn’t quite as sharp as Volini, they never let the visiting Eagles mount much of a comeback.
Payton Prestcott battled his way through two shutout innings by striking out three batters, but he also allowed a hit, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Ben Barrett then pitched the final frame, but he allowed one run on a hit, a walk, a hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch
With inclement weather expected on Sunday, FSU and Boston College will play a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Arnold (2-0, 1.12 ERA) is expected to start the first game, while Wes Mendes (3-0, 0.89) will start the nightcap.
