Florida State basketball commit among fastest risers in new Rivals150 ranking
The latest edition of the Rivals150 rankings for the 2026 men’s basketball recruiting class were released recently, and a Florida State commit saw one of the biggest jumps in the country.
Four-star center Marcis Ponder, who committed to the Seminoles in late July, was the eighth-highest riser in the national rankings, jumping from No. 71 in the class all the way up to 38th.
The 6-foot-10, 275-pound center became Florida State coach Luke Loucks’ first basketball-only commitment in the 2026 class and has created a lot of momentum for the Seminoles with other top targets. (FSU earlier picked up a commitment from football-basketball standout Jasen Lopez.)
Ponder described to Warchant what Loucks likes about his game after he made his pledge to the Seminoles.

“He says a lot it’s not about the dunks, it’s not about all the flashy highlight plays,” Ponder said. “It’s about how you do the second effort on defense and stuff like that.”
Ponder will be back on campus for the Florida State-Alabama football game for his official visit, and he plans to help recruit top players such as Colin Paul, Brandon Bass Jr., and Kevin Thomas.
