Florida State Men's Golf advances to final round of stroke play at NCAA Championships

The Florida State men’s golf team didn’t play its best round on Sunday afternoon. Not even close.
But the Seminoles were good enough in the first two rounds of the NCAA Championships that they still easily qualified inside the cut line after Day 3 in Carlsbad, Calif.
The top 15 teams after Sunday’s third round advanced to the final round of stroke play on Monday. Florida State currently sits alone in seventh place at plus-9 overall.
The top eight teams in the stroke-play standings after Monday’s round will advance to the match-play portion of the championship.
Junior star Luke Clanton shot a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday for the Seminoles and is minus-3 for the tournament overall. Clanton was one of very few players on the day to shoot under par, and he is now tied for ninth place in the individual standings. Michael La Sasso of Ole Miss is currently leading the individual standings at minus-11.

The Seminoles, who finished runner-up at last year’s NCAA Tournament, played extremely well the first two days at the Omni La Costa Resort and were in fifth place at minus-1 overall, seven shots behind first-place Auburn.
On Sunday, however, the Seminoles shot 10-over par as a team and dropped back to seventh place, 19 shots behind Auburn. But all that matters is finishing in the top eight on Monday. And Florida State is still very much in range to do that.
