Florida State moves up to No. 7 in AP rankings, No. 9 in Coaches Poll

The Florida State football team didn’t play a game this weekend, but the extra time off might have given poll voters some time to reflect on how impressive the Seminoles were in their first two games.

Florida State moved up three spots to No. 7 in the AP Top 25, which was released Sunday afternoon. The ‘Noles also moved up three spots to No. 9 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

This is the first time Florida State has been ranked inside the top 10 of both major polls since the beginning of the 2024 season, when FSU was placed No. 10 in both during the preseason.

To move up three spots in the AP poll, Florida State leapfrogged Texas, while fell a spot to No. 8 after an unimpressive victory over UTEP, and Illinois, which stayed at No. 9 after shutting out Western Michigan. Notre Dame dropped from No. 8 to No. 24 after losing to Texas A&M and falling to 0-2 on the season.

In the Coaches Poll, Florida State moved up primarily thanks to losses by South Carolina and Clemson.

FSU is now the second-highest-rated ACC team in the polls behind Miami, which is No. 4 in the AP Top 25 and No. 6 in the Coaches Poll.

Florida State returns to action this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against visiting Kent State. The Golden Flashes fell to 1-2 on the season after narrowly losing to Buffalo, 31-28.
