The Florida State women’s soccer team will get to play for the fifth national championship in school history this Monday after knocking off TCU on Friday in the NCAA semifinals.

The Seminoles and Horned Frogs were locked in a scoreless tie for most of the night until FSU sophomore Wrianna Hudson scored in the 73rd minute to give the Seminoles a 1-0 advantage. Florida State then withstood a late charge from TCU to hold on for victory in the College Cup, which is being played in Kansas City, Mo.

This will mark Florida State’s second trip to the national championship game in three years and third in five years. The Seminoles won NCAA titles in 2014, 2018 and 2021 under former head coach Mark Krikorian and in 2023 under current head coach Brian Pensky.

With the win, FSU improves to 15-2-4, while TCU’s season comes to an end at 18-3-3.

While it was Hudson who scored the game-winner, Florida State goalkeeper Kate Ockene also came through in the clutch when TCU had a prime scoring opportunity in the final seconds. Horned Frogs forward Seven Castain got a clean look at the goal after a Florida State defender fell down while lunging at the ball, but Ockene came through with a sliding block to secure the win with two seconds remaining.

Florida State dominated the match for most of the night, racking up 15 shots and eight shots on goal, while TCU registered just seven shots and two shots on goal.

In the national championship game on Monday, Florida State will face the winner of Friday’s late game between Stanford and Duke.
