RALEIGH, N.C. — For two weeks, Mike Norvell and the Florida State coaching staff discussed things they could do to kick-start their offense on the road and pick up a desperately needed victory away from home.

On Friday night at N.C. State, the Seminoles did neither.

Florida State once again moved the ball but sputtered in the red zone, and N.C. State mustered enough on offense to record a 21-11 victory in Carter-Finley Stadium. With the win, the Wolfpack improved to 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the ACC, while FSU fell to 5-6 and 2-6.

The Seminoles finish their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule with two wins, one year after winning just one conference game in 2024. Which will lead to even more speculation about Norvell’s future as Florida State’s head coach.

Just as they did in their first three road games this season — at Virginia (14-0), Stanford (13-3) and Clemson (18-0) — the Seminoles fell into a double-digit hole on Friday night. Despite playing against an N.C. State defense that ranked among the worst in the country this season, FSU trailed 14-3 after three quarters.

The Seminoles cut the deficit to 14-11 in the fourth quarter with a Tommy Castellanos touchdown pass to Duce Robinson and a two-point conversion throw to Jayvan Boggs. But that was as close as the Seminoles would get.

Florida State’s defense did what it needed to get the ball back twice in the final minutes, but the ‘Noles muffed two punts, and both were recovered by the Wolfpack. N.C. State then capitalized on the final muff to score a game-clinching touchdown.

Norvell is now 0-4 in four games against N.C. State, and the Seminoles have lost six of the last seven in the series.

Florida State wraps up its season Saturday against rival Florida in Gainesville.
