Lajae Jones tied an FSU record for made 3-pointers and scored a career-high 36 points Friday night to propel the Seminoles to a 98-72 win over the Georgia Southern Eagles.

Jones’ 10 3-pointers tied a record that was set by George McCloud against LaSalle in 1989. Jones is also the first FSU player to score 36 points in a game since McCloud did it in the same game.

“Lajae was unbelievable tonight, the past two games he couldn’t buy a bucket, and he was a little bit in his head about it,” Loucks said postgame, “and all of our guys need to understand when you have off-shooting nights, there’s other ways you need to impact the gam,e and it’s always going to come back around.”

With the win, Florida State improves to 4-1 while Georgia Southern falls to 3-3.

Jones opened the second half with four straight 3-pointers, and after that, it was off to the races for the Seminoles. FSU outscored Georgia Southern in the second half, 58-42, including an 18-2 run midway through the second period.

Kobe MaGee added 12 points for Florida State, freshman Cam Miles got into double-figures for the second straight game with 11, and forward Chauncey Wiggins recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

FSU wasn’t quite as sharp in the first half, letting the Eagles draw to within a point at times, but the Seminoles took control with an 8-0 run later in the period.

“I thought the first half was absolutely unacceptable, I was really, really upset at halftime…” Loucks stated on the first half performance. “We got back to who we are.”

The Seminoles’ next game will be at home against Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
