Micheal Fly named first GM for FSU Men's Basketball

Florida State men’s basketball coach Luke Loucks announced on Tuesday that assistant coach Micheal Fly has been promoted to General Manager.
Fly will continue with his assistant coaching responsibilities while also serving as the GM of the program, according to a press release from the university.
The college coaching veteran is on his second stint with Florida State. He served as a video coordinator under Leonard Hamilton for three years before going to Florida Gulf Coast, where he was the head coach from 2018 to 2022. Fly then was then the associate head coach at Jacksonville University before being hired by Loucks at Florida State earlier this year.
“Fly is very comfortable in that realm of roster building, of team construction,” Loucks said. “He’s done a great job going all the way back to when he was here with Leonard Hamilton. He’s a relationship builder; he does a really good job with his connections around the state.”
This marks the first time FSU has had a GM position for men’s basketball, and Loucks interviewed several people from the NBA ranks as well as sports agents before deciding to look closer to home.

“Fly is already doing 80 to 90 percent of what I’m going to ask these guys to do, and I trust Fly,” Loucks said. “He’s like a brother of mine. So all of those things went into it.”
Fly has played a huge role in Florida State’s success on the recruiting trail recently. He was one of the first coaches to offer four-star small forward Collin Paul, and that relationship ended up helping the ‘Noles win Paul’s commitment.
“Coach Fly was the first person to reach out to me on June 15 during my sophomore summer, and ever since then, he has consistently been in touch with me,” Paul said earlier. “I really appreciate how dedicated he has been, even after he transitioned to FSU. Being the first player he offered meant a lot to me, and it shows how much he believes in my potential and values what I can bring to his program. His support has truly made a difference for me.”
Fly also played a big role in landing the commitment of four-star wide receiver/point guard recruit Jasen Lopez, as well as shooting guard Brandon Bass Jr.
