Mike Norvell meets with FSU players to share news, support after Ethan Pritchard shooting

On what is typically an off-day for the Florida State football team, head coach Mike Norvell called the Seminoles together Monday morning to address the “tragic” shooting of freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard.
Pritchard, who was shot late Sunday night in nearby Havana, Fla., was listed in “critical but stable” condition on Monday morning. And after receiving the blessing of Pritchard’s father, Norvell shared information about the incident and the linebacker’s health status with the team.
“Just thoughts and prayers with Ethan Pritchard and his family,” Norvell said during his regularly scheduled Monday press conference. “It’s obviously an extremely, just tragic event for the young man. … Our football team, coaches, families, we’re all here here to support them.”
The Florida State head coach actually spent much of the early morning hours Monday at a Tallahassee hospital, supporting Pritchard and his family. He said the university also is making services available for any Florida State players who need assistance.
“There’s a lot of emotions (among the players), and I’ve got a lot of emotions,” Norvell said. “But being able to know that there are great outlets here to support them through this. We’re grateful for all of the resources around our players.

“I’m grateful for their hearts. I mean, they love this family that we get to be a part of.”
Norvell also thanked the first responders, medical workers and the Florida State community for rallying to support Pritchard and the Seminoles.
Florida State is coming off of a season-opening, 31-17 victory over No. 8 Alabama, and the Seminoles will return to the practice fields on Tuesday.
Injury news
Norvell said the only significant injury sustained by the Seminoles on Saturday was to senior running back Roydell Williams, who carried the ball six times for 14 yards against Alabama. Williams also had a crucial fourth-down conversion on FSU’s final scoring drive.
While not disclosing the extent of the injury, Norvell said Williams will be out this week and for a, “period of time.” He did say it is not expected to be season ending.
