On3's Nakos: FSU projected to land Oklahoma RB transfer Gavin Sawchuk

When he spoke with the media earlier this week, Florida State coach Mike Norvell said he is keeping an open mind about adding another running back to a position group that is already pretty deep.
And it sounds like Norvell now has a good idea of who that player will be.
Former Oklahoma running back Gavin Sawchuk, who recently went into the transfer portal, is visiting Florida State today. And On3’s Pete Nakos has logged an expert prediction for Florida State to land his commitment.
Sawchuk’s name should be familiar to Florida State fans. The Seminoles recruited him out of high school, when he was a four-star prospect from Colorado, and he had a big game against FSU in the Cheez-It Bowl following the 2022 season.
As a then-freshman, Sawchuk was thrust into emergency duty against FSU and carried the ball 15 times for 100 yards and one touchdown.
Then in 2023, he rushed for 744 yards and nine touchdowns on 120 carries for an average of 6.2 yards per attempt. But his production dipped this past season to just 39 carries for 128 yards while he battled through a quad injury that forced him to miss several games.
Because he played sparingly in 2022 and received a redshirt, Sawchuk will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Florida State had five scholarship running backs on the roster this spring, and four-star freshman Ousmane Kromah is set to arrive this summer.

Roydell Williams and Caziah Holmes are both seniors, Jaylin Lucas is a redshirt junior, Samuel Singleton is a redshirt sophomore and Kam Davis is a sophomore. But none of those five appears to have a handle on the starting job going into the summer months.
Despite already having six backs on the roster when Kromah arrives, Norvell said on Wednesday that he was open to the idea of adding one more if it was, “the right fit.”
“I really like the guys that we have,” the Florida State coach said. “I like the ability, the potential. But just like in all things, it would need to be somebody who has an ability to come in and make an immediate impact.”
