QB Tommy Castellanos chosen to 'break the rock' after FSU preseason camp

The games won’t start for Florida State for one more week, but Tommy Castellanos has already won at least one thing — the respect and appreciation of the Seminoles’ coaching staff.

With preseason camp now complete and the Seminoles beginning preparations for their season opener against Alabama, Castellanos was chosen to “break the rock” after a successful camp.

In the video released by Florida State, strength and conditioning coach Josh Storms said Castellanos was selected for bringing a great attitude to every practice and every workout, and for uplifting his teammates.

“What are the qualities of a great team?” Storms said. “Guys, the way they approach the work every single day. The way they show up. The way they’re gonna go above and beyond and do extra. The way they’re going to pour into their teammates. The way they’re going to lift guys up. Bringing that positive attitude every single day — that draws guys in and makes guys tighter together.

“The guy that stands out to me, that embodies that every single time he walks in the building … Tommy, come break this rock.”

Castellanos transferred to Florida State in January after starting at quarterback for most of the past two seasons at Boston College. He is expected to be one of as many as nine or 10 first-year transfers in the starting lineup for the Seminoles’ offense when FSU takes on Alabama at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30.
