Seminoles' opening win generates early College Playoff buzz

Florida State made a huge statement on Saturday with its 31-17 victory over the No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide. And while the AP Top 25 won’t be revealed until today, the Seminoles already have generated major buzz among national sports media.
Several voters in the AP poll have already revealed their individual ballots, and some have Florida State ranked inside the Top 10.
On3’s Andy Staples went so far as to include the Seminoles as the No. 8 seed in his early College Football Playoff bracket.
“We spent the past year bashing the Seminoles, which is understandable given last year’s 2-10 campaign. But for the same reason, we need to give new-look Florida State respect after it thumped Alabama 31-17,” Staples wrote. “The Crimson Tide have one of the nation’s most talented rosters, and the Seminoles looked just as fast and a lot more physical. If they can handle that roster, they’re capable of playing with anyone on their schedule.”
In his projection, Florida State would play the ninth-seeded Utah Utes in Doak Campbell Stadium. Utah beat UCLA during opening weekend at the Rose Bowl, 43-10.

The winner of that Florida State-Utah game would then play No. 1 seed Ohio State.
Another interesting aspect of Staples’ early projections is that he has three ACC teams currently in the playoffs. That is the same number of SEC and Big Ten teams.
The other two ACC teams included were Clemson and Miami. The Tigers, of course, lost their season opener to LSU; Miami beat Notre Dame on Sunday night.
Another one of Florida State’s rivals, UF, was listed as one of the first four teams out.
FSU will look to continue its hot start to the 2025 season this Saturday as the Seminoles take on East Texas A&M before heading into a bye week.
