Veteran safety Conrad Hussey no longer part of FSU football program

One of Florida State’s prized recruits from the 2023 recruiting class is no longer part of the Seminoles’ program, a university spokesman confirmed Tuesday with Warchant.com.
Junior safety Conrad Hussey, who played in 24 games over the past two seasons and entered preseason camp as a contender for a starting job, finishes his FSU career with 40 tackles and four career starts.
The former St. Thomas Aquinas standout was a four-star recruit after excelling in football and track and field in high school, and he showed great promise early in his college career.
As a true freshman, Hussey started one game and played in all 14 for Florida State during the Seminoles’ 13-win season. He recorded 22 tackles, two forced fumbles, one interception, one fumble recovery and two pass breakups while earning the Devaughn Darling Award as the team’s Defensive Freshman of the Year.
But an injury hampered Hussey in 2024, and he started three of the 10 games he played in. He finished that year with 18 tackles.
Hussey was expected to compete this fall for playing time or a starting role as one of the three safeties in Tony White’s 3-3-5 defense, but the coaches have not said much about him during the first two weeks of preseason camp. Junior Earl Little is penciled in at one of those spots, and redshirt sophomores Edwin Joseph and KJ Kirkland appear to be favorites for the other two spots.

Hussey’s departure comes one day after White went on a rant about some of the Seminoles’ more experienced players not performing up to expectations.
“There are some guys who, quite frankly, need to step their ass up,” White said. “It’s unacceptable. We all need to understand that we’re on the same page, what’s asked of us and what the expectations are. Either guys do it or they don’t. And it’s not right if you don’t. So, we had some guys go out there and play hard and play physical and play fast and do the things that they were asked to do.
“And it’s fun to watch those guys grow and continue to make plays. And there are some guys you’re expecting much more from that are not doing that. They’re not doing what they’re asked to do. They’re not doing what they’re being taught to do, and therefore they won’t play.”
The Seminoles open the 2025 season on Saturday, Aug. 30, against visiting Alabama.
