Florida State coaching staff reflects, refocuses for upcoming opponent

No. 4 Florida State hosts FCS opponent North Alabama on Saturday in its home finale.

On Monday, head coach Mike Norvell retraced FSU’s 27-20 win over Miami, calling it a three-phase effort of success and celebrated the program’s 26th 10-win season.

Asked about the possibility of resting veterans versus a opponent from a lower divison, Norvell bebuffed the idea.

“We’re playing an FCS opponent and we respect this game. We respect our responsibility and respect who we’re playing,” said Norvell

Saturday’s game will be Senior Day and a celebration of the 2013 Florida State team that won the program’s third national title.

Norvell also brushed off the multiple reports that used his name on a candidates list for the Texas A&M head coaching vacancy.

“I can’t control any of that,” said Norvell. “We’re so excited about what we’re building here and where we’re going. This is a special place”

No. 4 Florida State (9-0, 7-0) faces FCS opponent North Alabama at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in Doak Campbell Stadium. The Lions dropped their previous game 27-14 vs. Central Arkansas, Mike Norvell’s alma mater. The Seminoles remain atop the ACC after their 27-20 win over the Miami Hurricanes; Louisville is alone in second place after its 31-24 win over Virginia.

FSU QB Jordan Travis has the 7th shortest odds of winning the Heisman Trophy given annually to the most outstanding player in college football. Through ten games, Travis has accounted for 27 total touchdowns (seven rushing) and only two interceptions while completing 64% of his passes for 2,734 yards (18th in the country). His 82.6 QBR, a formula generated for ESPN to grade quarterbacks, is 13th best in the nation.
