In the search for talented depth at the safety position, Georgia fended off several suitors in the race for four-star defensive back Blake Stewart, officially announcing his signing on Wednesday.

A three-star safety from Fairburn, Georgia’s Woodward Academy, Stewart ranks as the nation’s No. 426 overall prospect in the Class of 2026 according to the Rivals Industry Ranking and is the No. 37 safety in the country per the same metric. When it comes to the Peach State, Stewart checks in as the No. 48 prospect.

A former Clemson commit, Stewart saw a strong host of teams vying for his services following the reopening of his recruitment, with Miami and Vanderbilt mentioned heavily in the lead up to National Signing Day.

But the relationship with Georgia began to take a turn around that same time, as well, with Stewart spending a couple of game days in Athens near the end of the season.

“Things are picking up with them,” Stewart told Rivals’ Chad Simmons at that time.. “It was a good game and the atmosphere was good. I talked to some of the commits, like Jae Lamar and Tyriq Green and I talked with T-Rob (Travares Robinson) and Kirby Smart before the game. They see how well I’ve been doing, and they see improvement. They talked to me about how there’s a need at safety and that I could come in and compete…I feel good about Georgia. That visit did help them. Talking with the coaches was great, and we talked about the fit some. They send guys to the league every year, so Georgia is a school I am looking at.”

Clearly, that was more than just a cursory glance for the Dawgs.

Blake Stewart joins a 2026 safety signing class for the Bulldogs that includes Jordan Smith, Tyriq Green, and Zech Fort.
