Georgia spring football moves into the spotlight at long last

Georgia spring football is finally the topic of conversation. Not just the NFL Draft or a never-ending stream of off-the-field news.

Nope, it’s spring football front and center on The Georgia Show.

Georgia has to re-tool its receiving corps and attack this offseason. It also has to find a new starter at quarterback.

How do the Dawgs handle that with offensive coordinator Mike Bobo taking the reigns from Todd Monken?

Well, a lot of times, the answer may be as simple as Brock Bowers. Ladd McConkey, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint and Dillon Bell have experience, too. But now there’s a breath of fresh air when it comes to the Dawgs’ depth chart.

Within and beyond the receiving corps, Georgia could find at least one freshman who is ready to contribute.

DawgsHQ’s Palmer Thombs made a list of the top five freshmen to watch in Georgia’s 2023 spring practice.

We break down the list – and let Palmer know who he missed – on this Wednesday night edition of The Georgia Show (YouTube / Apple / Spotify – live every Sunday and Wednesday at 8:30PM ET).

Tovani Mizell decommits

The biggest news of Georgia’s day came right before we went on the air.

Four-star running back Tovani Mizell (2024 class) decommitted from Georgia.

DawgsHQ recruiting insider Jake Reuse broke down what the move means for the Dawgs and for Mizell.

Ultimately, it didn’t come as much of a surprise for a Georgia running back recruiting class that could be pretty impressive and deep.

Reuse also offered up some thoughts on RPM Wednesday in regard to some chatter about a potential flip from Georgia commit Demarcus Riddick.

That topic made me wonder: What is the most impactful flip that benefitted Georgia?

We’ll get into it more next time we speak. Early return leaders from The Georgia Show comments section included George Pickens and Jake Fromm.

Hard to disagree there.

Georgia basketball’s SEC Tournament fate

We went live before the Dawgs tipped off in the SEC Tournament against LSU. Georgia ultimately fell in a 72-69 defeat for a first-round exit.

Mike White has plenty of work to do with this team. The Dawgs finished the season with a .500 record at 16-16, which is still an improvement from Tom Crean’s final season.

Still, White has higher standards that that for his teams in Athens.

The transfer portal and some recruiting additions will have to help the Dawgs look more competitive in meaningful games down the road.

I wrote Wednesday about the 15 years that passed since Dennis Felton’s destiny team in 2008.

Anything can happen in college basketball.

It didn’t for Georgia in this tournament. Now White has plenty of time to try and fix it.
