Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers continued their recent recruiting momentum with a significant addition to the 2026 class, landing a commitment from quarterback Cash Herrera on Monday afternoon.

Herrera, a 6-foot-3, 207-pound standout from The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, California, announced his pledge to Indiana via Instagram following a weekend visit to Bloomington.

The three-star signal-caller is the 19th commitment in IU’s 2026 class and the first — and likely only — quarterback in the class.

A former Iowa commit, Herrera reopened his recruitment earlier this month and quickly scheduled an official visit with the Hoosiers. The trip proved fruitful, with Indiana extending an offer and Herrera opting to commit shortly after.

Ranked No. 679 overall and No. 42 among quarterbacks nationally in the 2026 cycle by the On3 Industry Ranking, Herrera also holds the distinction of being the No. 63 player in California.

As a junior last fall, Herrera earned All-League honors after throwing for 2,033 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 334 yards and eight more scores.

He chose Indiana over offers from Iowa, Minnesota, UCLA, Arizona, California, Virginia Tech and several Ivy League programs including Brown, Columbia and Yale.

While four-star signal caller Luke Fahey appeared to be the Hoosiers’ top option at quarterback in the 2026 class, Fahey recently picked up an offer from Ohio State following a weekend visit and will likely end up a Buckeye.

Herrera joins a growing 2026 recruiting class that continues to take shape throughout a massively successful month of June for the Hoosiers on the recruiting trail.

Indiana’s ninth commitment this month, Herrera’s addition pushes the Hoosiers’ 2026 class into the top 30 in the country — currently ranking No. 28.

Indiana’s involvement began earlier this spring and has been consistent since.

“The staff is all about ball and winning,” Herrera said. “I got close with the QB coach, Chandler Whitmer. I like him and how the atmosphere is competitive and that there is a high standard there.”

When asked why he chose Indiana over more than a dozen other offers, Herrera said the program’s offense, coaching staff and culture stood out.

“They run an offense that showcases my talents and they have a head coach who wins. The culture is great too. It is a great academic school for business as well,” Herrera told On3.
