3 Hoosiers named Walter Camp Preseason All-Americans

Indiana football landed three players on the Walter Camp Preseason All-America teams, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Tuesday, placing the Hoosiers among just five schools in the country with that distinction.
Junior cornerback D’Angelo Ponds was named to the first team on defense, while senior defensive end Mikail Kamara and senior wide receiver Elijah Sarratt were selected to the second team.
Indiana joins Alabama, Clemson, Penn State and Texas as the only programs with three preseason selections. The Big Ten is represented by nine schools and 15 players overall, while the SEC leads all conferences with 16 players from 12 schools.

Ponds, an All-American and first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2024, returns as one of the top cornerbacks in the nation. He appeared in 13 games last season, starting 12, and finished with 55 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions — including one returned for a touchdown — and 12 passes defended.
Kamara, a James Madison transfer, is coming off a breakout season in which he recorded 47 tackles and 10 sacks in his first year with the Hoosiers. He earned first-team All-Big Ten honors and national All-America recognition in 2024.
He is expected to play a new hybrid role this fall as the Hoosiers’ starting STUD — a position combining edge rusher and outside linebacker duties.

Sarratt, one of the Big Ten’s top returning receivers, posted 53 catches for 987 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He is expected to be a key piece of Indiana’s offensive attack again in 2025.
Ponds and Kamara have already been named to several preseason All-America teams, including those compiled by Pro Football Focus.

Several other Hoosiers are drawing national attention ahead of the season. Linebacker Aiden Fisher, quarterback Fernando Mendoza, center Pat Coogan, offensive tackle Carter Smith and safety Amare Ferrell are among the players considered preseason award candidates.
With more award lists expected in the coming weeks, Indiana could see even more players recognized before the 2025 season kicks off.
