Iowa Women's Basketball lands five-star forward McKenna Woliczko

The months of anxious waiting are over, Jan Jensen and Co. have landed the second-highest rated recruit in program history. On Wednesday morning, 2026, 6-foot-2, five-star forward McKenna Woliczko (San Jose, CA) announced her commitment to Iowa. Woliczko chose the Hawkeyes over a finalists list that included South Carolina, USC and Ohio State. She also held notable offers from UCLA, Texas, Notre Dame and North Carolina. McKenna is rated as the #2 player in California and the #6 player in the country by Rivals.
“I have a really good relationship with all the coaches. I talk to them a lot and I just love them as people, and I could see them coaching me,” Woliczko told On3’s Talia Goodman back in June. “They have a big fan base. I think that’s really cool to have, with all those people supporting women’s basketball. I thought that was super cool.”
Just the third top ten recruit in program history, Woliczko joins a list that includes Caitlin Clark (#4 in ’20) and Samantha Logic (#10 in ’11). Current true freshman Addie Deal is the highest-rated player on the current roster, coming to Iowa as the #15 player in the country in the ’25 recruiting class.
Woliczko is one of the best players in the country, rated in the top ten in the Rivals Industry Rankings. As a sophomore during the 2023-24 season, McKenna was just one of two underclassmen to be named a MaxPreps All-American selection. Those three All-American teams included names like Jaloni Cambridge (Ohio State), Syla Swords (Michigan), Joyce Edwards (South Carolina), Aaliyah Chavez (’25 #1) and Jazzy Davidson (’25 #2).

Woliczko missed the second half of last season, her junior season with a torn ACL, but she is expected to be back in time to play the entirety of her senior season. As a sophomore at Archbishop Mitty, McKenna helped the Monarchs to a 30-1 overall record, averaging a team-high 22.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 64.0% from the floor.
Woliczko is the first player to commit to Iowa for the class of 2026, but the Hawkeyes are hosting or have hosted several other highly-rated ’26 recruits, including five-star Addison Bjorn, five-star Trinity Jones, four-star Jenica Lewis, four-star Amari Byles and four-star Vienna Murray.
