Kansas State made stops all over the country during the contact period before spring ball. They checked in on various high schools and examined new potential targets and conferred on old ones. They were able to extend some new scholarships because of it.

One was given out by K-State to Arizona-based defensive back Jamar Beal-Goines. He hails from Desert Edge High School, a particular spot that has been loaded with talent in recent years.

“I was excited and happy to receive the offer,” Beal-Goines said. “Meeting Coach [Mike] Tuiasosopo and Coach [Joe] Klanderman made me excited. I liked their energy and the stuff they were saying.”

“They know me well,” he added. “They mentioned how much I have grown and gotten stronger since the last time they saw me and stuff like that.”

The relationship between the Kansas State coaches and Beal-Goines is still young, but they have made a good first impression.

“I just met them so I got to get to know them better but I like them a lot,” he pointed out. “K-State always has a winning record and are good on defense and have a lot of corners in the league.”

That NFL pedigree won’t be the magic bullet. It will take more than that and years of winning. Chris Klieman and Kansas State have their hands full. Washington, the in-state schools, Utah, Texas A&M and UCLA are also considered in the mix.

The coaching carousal has put a wrench in his recruitment, too.

“The Arizona staff who I visited with is at Washington now, and the Washington staff I visited is at Alabama now,” Beal-Goines noted. “Kansas was really great visit but the defensive backs coach who I was with most of the time left now. At Arizona State, I didn’t get to meet a lot of the coaches. It was like a group visit.”

Beal-Goines is hoping to take official visits in May and June, but with his recruitment taking off, he is not sure which spots will get official visits.
