NAME: Collin Dunn
RANKING: ***
CLASS: 2023
POSITION: Linebacker
HOMETOWN: Tuscaloosa, Alabama
HIGH SCHOOL: Hillcrest
POWER FIVE OFFERS: Kansas State, Maryland, Pittsburgh, West Virginia

RECRUITING SUMMARY

Collin Dunn committed to Kansas State over other offers from Maryland, Pittsburgh and West Virginia. Of those three, he listened to Neal Brown and the Mountaineers the most, but he always indicated that he was more infatuated with Brian Anderson, Joe Klanderman and K-State.

There was a lot of mutual interest from the jump. He visited Kansas State for a game during the 2021 season and was offered shortly thereafter. That was followed by a visit to Manhattan in the Spring. But both sides chose to remain and patient and not rush into anything.

However, the K-State coaching staff made the decision to start sprinting for him and add him to the linebacker room. That is when the Wildcats hosted him for an official visit in June when the plan was not to at one point.

Spots were in a crunch and the future Kansas State linebacker leapt at the chance to secure his place in the K-State class. It was a masterclass in recruiting by Chuck Lillie to still outdo other Power Five programs and pounce on Dunn when the time arrived.

EVALUATION

Schematic fit comes to mind when speaking about Dunn. He is someone that perhaps does not blow anyone away with measurables just yet, and that may take a year or two in the weight room with Trumain Carroll, but he has the tools and traits to do exactly what Kansas State wants out of the ‘Sam’ linebacker role.

Dunn is a future cover linebacker. He has the length but probably not the strength and bulk. So, he’s what Shawn Robinson would have been for the Wildcats this season or what K-State hopes to receive from Rex Van Wyhe next season.

He just will need to become bigger and more explosive.

As a KSO subscriber, Kansas State fans can find out more about the rest of the recruiting targets still being chased, which underclassmen players could return for the Wildcats and how many of the seniors will be back on the roster for an extra season in Manhattan.

Remember, we also have plenty of bowl coverage on the way for Big 12 Champion K-State as well in the lead-up to the Sugar Bowl matchup with Alabama, plus Jerome Tang and company are cooking and have shot out to an 10-1 record.
