The top-rated point guard in the class of 2022 has cut his list to five, and Kentucky remains in contention.

Dior Johnson, the No. 3 overall prospect in the 247Sports player rankings, is considering Alabama, Kentucky, Oregon, Washington and the National Basketball League, the premier men’s professional basketball league in Australia and New Zealand.

According to Tipton Edits, Johnson will not be considering the G League or Overtime Elite professional routes.

Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound point guard out of Corona, CA, previously committed to Syracuse in February 2020 before decommitting in November.

“Good length and stature for a point guard,” 247Sports’ Jerry Meyer said of the Kentucky target. “Quick athlete with superb body control. Has tremendous instincts as a driver and passer. Delivers the difficult pass. Finishes the difficult shot. High level lay up maker. Has multiple fade away moves to his right shoulder. Shoots the ball well enough to be considered a three-level scorer. Has potential to rebound his position well and be a dangerous versatile defender. ”

Suiting up for Vegas Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit, Kentucky has gotten an up-close look at Johnson over the last two seasons recruiting the likes of Jalen Green, Josh Christopher and Jaden Hardy, who also played with the program at various points.

After minimal buzz with Kentucky in recent months, it appears John Calipari and the UK coaching staff are back swinging for the fences on the recruiting trail.
