BTI's Rants and Ramblings: Monday Morning Offensive Breakdown (Missouri)

It's going to be hard to look at some of these numbers below from another difficult offensive performance against Missouri. But that certainly shouldn't dampen any kind of excitement from the improbable win on Saturday. It sets up the Cats with an incredible opportunity against Georgia and I think you saw maybe enough good things in the passing game to say they MIGHT have some chances against the Bulldogs. A look back first at the offense against Mizzou:
1st Down
Run: 14 rushes, 53 yards
Pass: 11-15, 154 yards, 1 TD (3 sacks allowed)
SEASON TOTALS
Run: 154 rushes, 922 yards, 12 TD (1 fumble lost)
Pass: 50-72, 552 yards, 4 TD, 2 INT (4 sacks allowed) (1 fumble lost)
Recap: For the first time, maybe all season, the Cats passing attack was far more effective than the rushing game on 1st down. Even before several large chunks of yards on the final drive of the game, UK had over 100 yards of passing on 1st down while only averaging 4 yards per carry on the ground. The threat of a passing game will be huge next Saturday to give the Cats good opportunities on 2nd and 3rd down against UGA.
2nd Down
Run: 10 rushes, 47 yards
Pass: 9-14, 68 yards
SEASON TOTALS
Run: 107 rushes, 582 yards, 4 TD (3 fumbles lost)
Pass: 36-54, 361 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT (5 sacks allowed)
Recap: Solid numbers here but nothing spectacular. The Cats never hurt themselves on 2nd down but only were moderately successful, averaging a little over 4.5 yards per play. The passing game showed improvement here too and Cats avoided sacks.
3rd Down and Long (6 yards or more)
Run: 3 rushes, 4 yards (converted 0 of 3)
Pass: 2-4, 35 yards (converted 1 of 4)
SEASON TOTALS
Run: 16 rushes, 91 yards (converted 2 of 16)
Pass: 16-33, 207 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT, 3 sacks allowed (converted 6 of 36)
Recap: Has been a serious weakness all year with the Cats inability to stabilize a passing attack and not much changed on Saturday. Cats also tried a couple rushing plays here with no success. If they can convert 2 or 3 of these against Georgia, could be huge.
3rd Down and Short (5 yards or less)
Run: 2 rushes, 2 yards (converted 0 of 2)
Pass: 2-5, 20 yards, 1 INT (converted 2 of 5)
SEASON TOTALS
Run: 32 rushes, 191 yards, 1 TD (converted 24 of 32)
Pass: 9-14, 53 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 2 sacks allowed (converted 7 of 16)
Recap: While the overall numbers remained poor, the huge conversion to Bouvier on the final drive made up for it all. UK somewhat abandoned the run game in these situations, a first for this season, although Cats didn't have success when they tried.
