Cinncinati commit Cameron Calhoun has been in Lexington throughout the weekend for an official visit to the University of Kentucky. Before the trip could even come to an end, he reopened his recruitment.

Calhoun, a three-star class of 2023 cornerback out of Winton Woods (OH) High School, backed off his decision to join the Cincinnati Bearcats on Sunday morning. He originally committed to UC back in June over Kentucky and a few other programs. The 6-foot, 165-pounder has visited UK multiple times since picking Cincinnati and there was buzz he might back off his commitment and survey his options again.

Calhoun has also picked up offers from Michigan and Michigan State earlier this month, although Kentucky is perceived as the early leader in the reopened process. Michigan is expected to receive an official visit next weekend.

Calhoun was first a West Virginia commit before winding up with the Bearcats. He initially committed to the Mountaineers in March. Kentucky was considered the favorite, yet the ‘Cats weren’t ready to take his commitment at the time. It resulted in a fake-out video with Calhoun ditching Kentucky blue for Country Roads.

But that bridge doesn’t appear to have been burned. Kentucky was the very first Power 5 school to offer Calhoun, with associate head coach Vince Marrow doing so in Dec. 2021, and they aren’t done recruiting him just yet. The coaching staff is familiar with the Winton Woods program and expects to be a prominent figure in Calhoun’s reopened recruitment.

According to the On3 Consensus, Calhoun is considered the No. 477 overall high school senior and the 49th-best cornerback in the country.
