Just a few days ago, KSR learned that Kenny Brooks and Kentucky women’s basketball had reached out to Charlotte transfer guard Dazia Lawrence. Lawrence was selected as First-Team All-AAC after posting 18.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game last season for the 49ers.

Now, the coveted American Athletic Conference standout is set to visit Kentucky over the course of the weekend, sources tells KSR.

After what was a pretty slow first two seasons for Lawrence, things ramped up for her quickly. After playing less than 10 minutes per game through her freshman and sophomore years, she would start in 61 of her next 62 appearances, averaging 33.1 minutes per game across 2022-23 and 2023-24.

Of course, that allowed her production to shoot through the roof, and that’s when her value became apparent. At just 5-foot-8, Lawrence finds ways to score over any opponent. Her craftiness and playmaking abilities are unlike any other.

She can make something out of nothing and produces highlight reel material in the blink of an eye.

Something else to monitor would be her ability to make shots from deep. Last season, Lawrence made just 31.3% of her three-point attempts, which is okay, but not great. However, as a junior, the North Carolina native shot 36% from the three-point line — the potential is definitely there.

Now, she could very well end up a ‘Cat, which would make for one of the best backcourts in the SEC. It helps that Ciara Gregory was recently hired at UK too. Gregory just so happened to be an assistant at Charlotte, who spent most of her time working with the guards, helping develop Lawrence into the player she is today.
