A sobering Reminder

by:Matt Jones08/09/06
As we enter this recruiting season where rankings are thrown around and players are called great and terrible, I give you this via an internet poster. This was a story written about Adam Williams when he committed to UK. Enjoy: Kentucky Lands West Virginia Rising Junior Bob Gibbons Tubby Smith's Kentucky Wildcats landed a gem from the Class of 2004 tonight when 6'4 190 lbs. 2G Adam Williams from St. Albans HS in St. Albans, West Virginia accepted their scholarship offer. Tex Williams, Adam's father who is also the coach at St. Albans, told ASR's publisher Bob Gibbons that Adam attended Tubby Smith's camp last week and played himself into a scholarship offer. Williams averaged 20.4 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks, and 3 steals per game last season on the way to all-state honors as a sophomore. He attends the same high school that current Florida guard Brett Nelson graduated from. He is bigger than Nelson was at the same stage and perhaps a better shooter. Adam was one of the participants in our most recent Bob Gibbons Evaluation Clinic at Suwanee Sports Academy in June. ASR editor Bob Gibbons says that Williams has, "Mike Dunleavy type versatility. He'll probably only grow another couple of inches, but he has a lot of the same qualities that Dunleavy possessed at the same stage. Only he's more physically developed. He is a flat out excellent shooter." In addition to being one of the top 25 players in the Class of 2004, Adam is also an excellent student with a 4.0 GPA according to his father
