ACC coaches vote to wear polo shirts instead of suits

Even basketball coaches don’t want to go back to normal clothes in 2020. According to Les Johns, Wake Forest head coach Steve Forbes said today that ACC coaches have voted to wear polo shirts at games this year instead of suits. With limited or no fans in the stands, I guess there are fewer people to impress?

I wasn’t aware that wearing suits on the sideline was something so set in stone that it required a vote to change, but I suppose it makes sense. Unlike other sports, dressing up for games is an unwritten rule in basketball, with the notable rebel being Bob Huggins. On that note, is anyone surprised that it was the ACC, not the Big 12, that is leading this charge? What will Roy Williams do with all of his baby blue sport coats now?

Also, as much as John Calipari loves his suits, I have a feeling he’d be fine with this becoming a sports-wide thing. Over the years, Cal has inched towards casual attire, ditching the tie in most games and wearing pullovers for exhibitions. Remember how happy he was to wear the windbreaker in honor of Huggy Bear for the West Virginia game in 2018? It’s only a matter of time before that Spyder quarter-zip makes an appearance at Rupp.

Personally, I think it’s long overdue. Nobody has time for all those buttons this year, let alone a tie. Next up: allowing baseball managers to stop dressing like players.

Let’s put it to a vote because it’s Thursday and why not:
