The second day of athletic testing at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis got rolling on Friday afternoon at Lucas Oil Stadium. Cornerbacks got the first swing at the plate. Kentucky redshirt junior Andru Phillips took advantage of his latest job interview opportunity.

The Mauldin (S.C.) product is certainly generating much second round buzz after a good Senior Bowl performance turned into a strong outing at the combine.

Measurables

  • Height: 5-10 6/8
  • Weight: 190 pounds
  • Arm Length: 31.25
  • Hand: 8.75
  • Wingspan: 75

Andru Phillips is on the shorter side at cornerback, but that was expected. Checking in at 190 pounds is a good weight for the Kentucky defensive back while his long reach will allow him to play bigger than his listed size.

Projected to play slot cornerback at the NFL level, Phillips fits the size profile for most true nickels in pro football.

Athletic Testing

Andru Phillips played cornerback and nickel in the SEC and often looked the part from an athletic standpoint. There was prevailing thought that the former three-star recruit could post some good athletic scores at the combine.

That thought was confirmed on Friday. Philips posted a strong relative athletic score.

  • Vertical Jump: 42
  • Broad Jump: 11’03”
  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.48

Phillips did not complete any agility testing in Indy, and that could come at Kentucky’s pro day. The defensive back flashed explosive athleticism in the both the vertical and broad jumps while hitting the important sub-4.5 mark in the 40-yard dash.

The testing will not slow down the buzz building for Phillips in the pre-draft process. Kentucky could see the defensive back sneak into the top 50 in April.
