Kentucky picked up another four-star commitment when Anthony Brown pledged his allegiance to the Big Blue Nation Saturday afternoon. He is now the seventh top 500 wide receiver to commit to UK in the past three recruiting cycles, joining Shamar Porter in the 2023 class.

Freddie Maggard made the drive to Southwestern Ohio to attend Brown’s commitment ceremony. The former Kentucky quarterback went one-on-one with Springfield’s Anthony Brown to hear why he ultimately chose to play for the Kentucky Wildcats.

KSR’s Conversation with Anthony Brown

KSR: Why Kentucky?

Anthony Brown: The consistent recruiting that (Vince) Marrow has done with me and my family, that played a big part. I’m their top priority. That’s big for me.

KSR: Tell me about your relationship with Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow.

AB: It’s great. I talk to them on a day-to-day basis. We’re going to continue to grow our relationship.

KSR: Wan’Dale Robinson, how big of an influence was he on your decision, maybe not by just communication but by the way he played the game at Kentucky?

AB: I think he was a big influence on my decision because it’s proof in the pudding that I can do the same things he did in our offense and make it to the NFL.

KSR: Speaking of the NFL, Kentucky last year and this year runs an NFL offense. Is that something that factored into your decision, to play in a system that helps prepare you for the league?

AB: Yes sir, for sure. Because if I’m learning NFL things in college, it ain’t gonna do nothing but make me better.

KSR: Dane Key is going to be a freshman next year. I saw him Tweet a picture at you. Talk about that relationship and what it’s going to be like playing with him.

AB: It started on my official visit. He was my host. Our connection was *snaps fingers* right there.

KSR: What about your senior year at Springfield, what’s your goals?

AB: Keep my head down, stay focused and hopefully win the state championship (they were the D-I runner-up in 2021).

KSR: Coach Moe Douglass and I were at UK together. Talk about him. How big of a role has he played, not only in your football career, but your life?

AB: The most important role. I was at Fairborn (Oh.) coming up and I think when we made the move to Springfield, it was the best choice for me, the best decision. Him getting my name out to colleges, doing what he can do, he played a big role.

KSR: What’s your goals at UK? What do you want to accomplish in Lexington?

AB: I want to be one of the greatest, the greatest to go out there, put my name in the history books and help my team win.

KSR: Describe your game. Say I’m a new quarterback, you come to me and say this is who I am, what are you going to tell me?

AB: I’m dynamic. You can play me outside, you can play me on the inside. I’m good with the ball in my hands. I can take you deep, things like that.

KSR: Are you a speed receiver, rout-receiver, combination of both?

AB: I would say a combination of both.

KSR: What’s your favorite route, besides a go route or a post?

AB: Anything really. I like slants, comebacks, I like all of them.

KSR: Just between me and you, you wanna make money, get that dig down. You get that deep inside route down, you’re going to make money.

AB: Yes sir.
