Let me start by saying, “Hold your horses.” Plenty of Kentucky fans are tired of seeing anything about John Calipari‘s Arkansas program on this website, and I totally get it. Let me just tell you that this time, it’s worth it.

Arkansas hosted Winthrop in a game we’ve seen John Calipari coach many times before. The Hogs played with their food, then found themselves trailing at the end of the game. They were down five points with two minutes to play when things got manic at Bud Walton Arena.

Arkansas created a turnover, then capitalized on a 3-on-2 fast break by getting the ball to Nick Pringle for the go-ahead bucket with 11.9 seconds on the clock. That’s when things took a turn.

Winthrop’s Seifeldin Hendawy fell to the floor. Logan Duncomb grabbed the ball through the net, then wrapped his arms around Pringle. They fell to the floor on top of Hendawy.

A double-technical was handed out to Duncomb and Pringle. Officials ejected four players — Arkansas’ DJ Wagner and Isaiah Sealy and Winthrop’s Ed Nnamoko and Pharrell Boyogueono — for entering the court during the melee.

You might not have seen the bench players enter the floor from that tight angle. The wider angle shows something much funnier.

Chuck Martin, Bruiser Flint, John Calipari, and a host of Arkansas assistants took the floor to try to break things up, while also restraining players from leaving the bench. Another assistant chose to anot get involved. Watch Kenny Payne. The former Louisville coach stayed in his seat while all of the madness unfolded before begrudgingly getting to his feet to assess the damage, long after the fracas was finished.

The chaos calmed down long enough to produce a lackluster finish to the game. Arkansas forced Winthrop to take a contested game-winning shot, and the Hogs escaped with a one-point win.

The Razorbacks fought to reach the finish line. We learned that Kenny Payne is not a guy you want in your corner during a brawl.
