Lexington is still reeling off of arguably the greatest victory in Kroger Field’s minuscule history. Couches and stop signs are nowhere to be found around State Street and University Avenue. Neither are garbage cans, which may or may not become a massive issue in the near future for students who call that area home.

Anyway. The last few days haven’t even seemed real, forcing some former ‘Cats to immediately take to the Twitter machine to get their takes off on what seems to be a special team down in the Bluegrass.

While the Kentucky Wildcats gave their alumni a reason to celebrate one of the biggest wins in program history, they still had their jobs to go out and do on Sunday. So, let’s take a look at how some of our former ‘Cats carried over the momentum into Week 4 of the NFL season.

Aaron Rodgers needs Randall Cobb

We knew that going into Sunday in Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers was sitting at 418 career touchdown passes. Two behind Dan Marino for 6th all-time in NFL history. What we didn’t know is that he would need a former Wildcat and longtime friend in order to reach the milestone today.

Randall Cobb collected two touchdowns on the day, ending up with a cool 69 yards on five catches to go with the scores.

Why did the Packers ever let this guy go in the first place? I know Rodgers has a knack for wanting to take all credit and fighting with his general manager, but still. Cobb is still really good. He and Davante Adams have decided to market themselves as Jordan and Pippen this year riding One Last Dance, but even those Bulls teams needed a third–Cobb is playing as Green Bay’s Denis Rodman.

Preseason projections don’t matter

The one thing I will perpetually feel bad for is NFL players stuck on notoriously bad teams. Yeah I get it, they make millions of dollars to play a game, we shouldn’t feel bad for them. It’s really not that simple though.

Players still play the game in order to win. There might be the anomaly and outlier that is truly there just to pick up a paycheck and leave, but playing football seems like a dangerous way to just coast through life. Anyone who ever played football in their life without receiving a cent of compensation knows how it feels. You play out of the pure love of the sport and competition, you want to win no matter the circumstance and truly put yourself in a position where you mentally think that can be achieved. All that seems to be true for Lonnie Johnson Jr., who has consistently been one of the better defenders on a lowly Texans team.

Johnson Jr. had a season-high eight tackles to go along with his first-quarter pick on Sunday. He now sits with 17 tackles on the year, good for sixth on the Texans despite only playing in three games so far this season. If anyone, Johnson is one of the former ‘Cats we should root for the most this season. He’s still going all out for a team that is run by a former church chaplain. But hey, at least he has no state income tax.

Other notable performances

  • Brandin Echols had another two tackles for the Jets in the first quarter before being taken out for concussion protocol.
  • Josh Allen had two tackles and a pass defense on Thursday night.
  • Mike Edwards had two tackles as his playing time slightly dipped (41% of snaps).
  • Jamin Davis had two tackles on 43% of defensive snaps.
