Behind The Facemask: Jacob Hyde

Redshirt junior nose tackle Jacob Hyde Kentucky is Mr. 606 or a true mountain man. When asked what he does to unwind off the field Hyde laughed and said, “At night I love to go gig me some frogs and take it easy.”

Born and raised in Clay County, Hyde dreamed about playing for his home state school since he was a little kid. Little is not a word that is commonly synonymous with the 6’2, 330-pounder from Manchester. “Clay County and the few special people out there have molded me into the man I am today.”

The fullback/nose tackle has been mentioned as a prominent feature on the 2016 defensive depth chart. His offensive role has yet to be determined. On Monday I had a chance to chat with my fellow hillbilly in another feature of, “Behind the Facemask”.

Hyde Notes

-- I nicknamed him the “Lawnmower” after discovering a prom picture in which he rode into the red carpet while driving a lawn mower.

-- Considered the strongest player on the roster.

-- Was Kentucky’s first commitment of the Class of 2013.

-- Following his senior season at Clay County Hyde helped Kentucky beat Tennessee 29-27 in the National Guard Border Bowl.

-- Majoring in social work.

I often joke with Jacob about the true meaning of “606”. For those that don’t know, 606 is the area code identification for eastern Kentucky. I am an unashamed Jacob Hyde fan both on and off the field. I respect and understand all the he stands for as well as the passion he has for Appalachian people. The old adage rings true today, “Good things happen to those that wait.”
