Bills QB EJ Manuel on Coach Stoops

Discover Orange Bowl - Northern Illinois v Florida State

For those of you who don’t know, my day job is in magazine writing (yes, I’m as shocked as y’all that I actually write for a living. Trust me). Anyway, I do interviews occasionally, and this morning I got to talk to Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel.

I’ll save you most of the details, but there’s one quote I thought I’d pass along. Late in the conversation, we were talking Stevie Johnson and Kentucky, so I took the opportunity to ask him what he thought about the Stoops hire. Manuel played his college ball at Florida State, so he obviously knows Stoops well, and had nothing but good things to say about our guy. Here’s the bulk of what he said:

“I think Coach Stoops is going to do an awesome job. He was a great coach for us. He was a great DC at FSU. He’s definitely a player’s coach, and I know he’s going to continue to get more – and better – recruits for you guys. So I’m sure that’ll help win a lot more games down there soon. I really just think Coach Stoops is going to do an awesome job overall. He was definitely overdue for that [type of] job, and he really deserves it.”

So there you have it. Another person close to Stoops singing his praises. Just add it to the pile. Here’s hoping Manuel’s right, and the recruiting is only going to get better. And that, ya know, we start winning a lot more games soon.
