Blast From The Past: King Rex shines in Freedom Hall
It was 27 years ago today, December 27, 1986, when a freshman Rex Chapman hit 5-of-8 three-pointers to lead Kentucky to a 34-point blowout win over the Cards in Freedom Hall. Chapman scored a game-high 26 points with four assists and the unforgettable steal and dunk over Kenny Payne, who is now an assistant at Kentucky.
Julius Randle reminded Kenny Payne of the dunk after Kentucky’s Blue-White game earlier this year, after Randle was on the receiving end of a jam by E.J. Floreal. Further proof that Chapman’s dunk will live on in UK lore forever and ever.
