BTI's Rants and Ramblings: The Day UK Football Turned the Corner

by:Bryan1310/22/10
November 4th, 2006: Georgia enters the game 6-3, Kentucky enters the game 4-4.  Kentucky had not beaten Georgia in a decade.  Georgia had won 3 out of the last 4 SEC East titles.  Kentucky had never won an SEC East title.  Kentucky had lost to LSU 49-0 just 2 weeks earlier.  Rich Brooks was likely on the outs if Kentucky didn't make a bowl.  He had a 13-29 record coming into the game. Georgia entered the game as a 7 point favorite.  Kentucky 24, Georgia 20.  Certainly this was THE MOMENT when Kentucky began it's turnaround.  Rich Brooks would go 26-18 the rest of his career, with 3 bowl wins on his record.  Recruiting has picked up, Kentucky has beaten LSU, Auburn, South Carolina, Arkansas, and Georgia again since that time.  And with another win over Georgia this weekend, suddenly an SEC East title is not out of the realm of possibility.  The game in 2006 was the turnaround moment for the program.  Hopefully the game 2010 will be the step up moment for the program.
