Bush Hamdan prefers to call plays from the booth (for the unlimited coffee)

On Thursday, Kentucky Football introduced its new offensive coordinator, Bush Hamdan, to the Big Blue Nation with a press conference at Kroger Field. In the conversation, we learned Kentucky’s new play-caller prefers to be in the coaches’ booth when calling plays, taking a different approach than past offensive coordinators in Lexington. The birds-eye view is an obvious advantage, but Hamdan likes to be in the booth for the amenities, like free coffee.
“I really enjoy coffee, so I like being upstairs,” admitted Hamdan during his introductory Q&A. “My whole career, I’ve been upstairs, and that’s definitely the preference.”
Still, Hamdan acknowledged situations in which being closer to the action and on the sideline with the head coach and players is advantageous.
“I know there’s times, certainly with the quarterbacks, where, you know, sometimes they’d like you down on the field and that communication,” he said. “But being up top is nice. You can see the game. You can be in a comfortable environment, and that’s definitely what I prefer.”

And the coffee? KSR’s Nick Roush didn’t let Hamdan’s admission go by without a follow-up question regarding how Hamdan takes his java.
“Straight black,” he replied with a smile.
That is the correct answer. The KSR crew takes down an urn of Kroger Field’s press box coffee each Saturday in the fall, so maybe we’ll see Bush at the fifth-floor coffee station. Hopefully, he will leave some for the rest of us.
Mark Stoops reveals his daily coffee routine
From the KSR Video Vault, Mark Stoops took former UK specialists Max Duffy and Miles Butler behind the scenes to see how Stoops builds his daily coffee. They learned that the boss likes a little calcium with his caffeine, opting for frothed skim milk with a double shot of espresso. Stoops won’t need to worry about his new OC drinking up all of the milk in the office break room.
