Carlos Toomer and the continuing Poetry of Man.....

toomer2.jpeg Longtime readers of this site....and I mean those of you that go WAY back....may remember that we discovered a while back that former UK Wildcat Carlos Toomer loves the poetry. In fact, last fall when we were doing our podcast in Shelbyville, we used to read a "Carlos Toomer Poem of the Week" every week, usually done by Hubby, and it was one of the true highlights of the show. Part emotion, part sports.....Carlos Toomer's poetry is well....odd, especially when you consider the fact that he names his poems after former UK players for reasons that are somewhat difficult to understand. But its Carlos....and as we all know, poetry is the lyric of man and if Carlos wants to name those lyrics after Jason Lathrem, that is certainly his business. So to bring back some of that old school flavor, I have dug up a couple of Carlos's poems he has written in the last year. The themes of last year still seem to resonate....as does his use of former Kentucky players in the title. These are all real and all come from Carlos's own internet work. So without further ado....some Carlos magic.... Antoine Walker-A Woman and A Rose(UofK)1995-1997 The heart symbolizes love and the rose symbolizes a woman. The smell of a rose is the sweetest of all flowers, and it stems are the strongest. yet and still it's tender as well as sensitive. The rose is the most loved flower ever. While, the woman receives the most love from a man. A rose needs, care, attention affection and most of all,it loves to stay wet and so does a woman. But, if you take a rose and you do not show the proper attention it will eventually fade away. The same as a woman, a man can say he loves his woman deeply but, if there's no love, care, attention, and affection your woman too will fade away. Wayne Turner(UofK)1996-2000 you are who you are I am who I am, I'm here if you need me I'll do what i can A helping hand for you to hold A warm heart so you'll never be cold, I'll listen to you whenever you call I'll support you so you won't fall I'll walk with you I'll hold your hand I'll stand beside you I'll understand This is the love I have this is the love i give for free this love is for my friends that are closest to me And of course, our favorite from last year: Bill Keightley-What you are to me...(UofK)Head Manager1963- Poems are for poets, Not angles from above. So I'll write you a song, And lave it with love. I may not be the knight in shining armor, That you always expected, But I hope that my love, given to you, Will not be rejected. This Valentine's Day is something special, And have a day for you and me to enjoy. If you haven't gotten the hint, I'll write it in this black ink: I care for you so much, More then you could ever think. So if you'll be my Valentine today, Maybe our low spirits will go away. We will be happy for a long while, And each time we see each other, I know we'll smile.
