Cobb Gets Edged Out In "Who Ya Got?"

  We're hitting the middle of the summer off-season stride. I'm rotating through my tank tops  at a dangerous rate, I couldn't tell you whether the Cubs or the White Sox are better this year, and the dads I babysit for are starting to get sunglasses tans from the golf course. Which means only one thing- it's time to start preparing for fantasy football drafts.   If you're into that thing, of course. Me? I've tried two years in a row, thanks to Ally Tucker's initiative at setting up a league and the fact that my mom (MY MOTHER) is really super into it, to the point where she sits by her computer all day on Sundays in the fall and texts me updates about how her guys are doing. Basically, I enjoy the chat room during the fantasy drafts, choosing the best team name, and watching The League. That's about it. But for those of y'all who aspire to win a hundred bucks or whatever the prize is among your friends, "experts" spend the weeks leading up to fantasy drafts comparing players and advising you on who to choose.     This week, Big Blue Sweetheart Randall Cobb was matched up against Percy Harvin in a post on The Score. Although he did note Cobb's impressive return yardage in the past few years, the author basically concluded that Cobb and Harvin are the same player- but Green Bay's depth at the receiver position hurts Cobb's points potential in the fantasy world:  

Between the presence of Nelson and Jones, there’s an opportunity for regression in both Cobb’s targets and his touchdowns, and therefore also his fantasy value (191.5 fantasy points last year, while Harvin had 122.5 in only half a season). It’s slight, and ultimately Cobb’s ceiling remains high along with his production potential. But by the end of 2013 we’ll likely see that putting Cobb in the same tier as Harvin was at best unwise, and at worst a significant early-round misstep. Give me Harvin.

  Personally? In her two years of fantasy football expertise, Mom's strategy has been to draft all UK players, starting with Randall Cobb the first year he played. It worked out pretty well for her. I wouldn't mess with her winning formula.   @KristenGeilKSR
