The matchup between Kentucky and Kansas is one of the most anticipated games on the college basketball schedule. ESPN will be giving that game the red carpet treatment.

The day before Conference Championship Sunday for the NFL, the SEC and Big 12 will have their yearly challenge. Once again, Kentucky is in the feature game at 6:00 p.m ET. and College GameDay will broadcast its preview show live from Allen Fieldhouse.

The meeting will be the first time the ESPN crew of Rece Davis, Jay Bilas, LaPhonso Ellis, and Seth Greenberg are live on location.

“The one-hour pregame show will begin at 11 a.m. on Jan. 29 inside Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan., Gameday’s ninth visit to the iconic arena and the fourth time the show will originate from a Kentucky-Kansas matchup.” per ESPN’s press release. “Kansas holds a 2-1 advantage in the past GameDay meetings.”

College GameDay tipped off its season last week and will continue in studio this Saturday, Jan. 22, before traveling to Kansas and other campus sites throughout the remainder of the 2021-22 season. Future campus sites will be determined week-to-week and announced one week prior to each show.”

GameDay is now in its 18th season, but this will be the first time the show has hit the road since the COVID-19 pandemic arrived.

Series History

The game between the two blue bloods on Jan. 29 will be the 34th meeting. Kentucky owns a commanding 23-10 series lead.

Since John Calipari arrived in Lexington, Ky., the Wildcats and Jayhawks have met eight times with each team owning four wins. The most memorable matchup occurred in 2012 when Kentucky beat Kansas in New Orleans to claim the program’s eighth national championship.

Last season, Kansas beat Kentucky in the Champions Classic in the most recent meeting. The historic rivals are set to revive their rivalry in less than two weeks. The Wildcats are looking for their first win in Allen Fieldhouse since 1983.

KSR will be on the scene in Lawrence, Kan., to provide coverage for what should be a great day for college basketball.
