Danny Ainge is known for making big deals on draft night for the Celtics. In 2007, he traded away the #5 overall pick to Seattle for Ray Allen. The year before, they traded for Rajon Rondo on draft night after he was originally drafted by Phoenix.
In 2012, the Celtics could have their eyes set on adding another Kentucky Wildcat, and maybe even two of them.
NBAdraft.net currently projects the Celtics to take
Doron Lamb with the 21st pick, which would make sense. The Celtics need a 3-pt shooter to replace Ray Allen, who could likely retire at the end of the season. But the Celtics also need to replace Paul Pierce, either this season or in the near future. To find a viable prospect to take his place, a Celtics blog says Boston should trade up to secure Terrence Jones. Jones is currently projected to go 19th to the Magic.
With owning both the 21st and 22nd overall picks, however, the Celtics could trade up one of their two pics to draft Jones. With the other pick, they could also draft Doron Lamb.

Terrence Jones may be a long shot at picks #21, 22 for the Celtics, but landing Terrence Jones would be a big heist for the White and Green. His athleticism dictates that he will at least have some success and he has a great face up game and the length to make it work. He’s good at passing out of double teams and his body is NBA ready. He would begin to train behind Paul Pierce, and then in two or three seasons, take over as the de facto small forward for the team.
Could you imagine a
Celtics lineup including Rondo, Jones, and Lamb? It could theoretically happen.
